MAUI VIEWS KOHALA GUEST HOUSE
AND GETAWAY RETREAT

Located in breezy North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii, MAUI VIEWS KOHALA is situated in the lush landscape surrounding the former sugar plantation town of Hawi. A half hour’s drive from Waimea (Kamuela) or a stunning half-hour from west-end resort beaches, Hawi draws folks in with its colorful shops and restaurants (see our blog for updates and info). For who could ever tire of traveling over Route 250 (known as the Mountain Road) where you can pull over to marvel at amazing panoramic views of all the island’s major mountains and its western shoreline? Or choose awe-inspiring Route 270, the so-called Ocean Road, where, from December through April, you can view humpback whales right from your car, along with pods of spinner dolphins.

Tucked away in this sleepy little town halfway between mile markers 19 & 20, MAUI VIEWS KOHALA is a unique opportunity to join us in experiencing Old Hawaii in a serene country setting. Sitting atop verdant fields, breathtaking views of Maui make this sister island appear as though conjured by the blue Pacific. We are located in the ancient neighborhood of Kokoiki, Hawaiian for “little blood.” It is the actual birth place of King Kamehameha the Great. Kokoiki is situated along the only ½ mile of true north on the Big Island.

Hawi has much to offer – starting with some of the cleanest air on the planet. Experience the feel of Old Hawaii with its tropical landscape, slow pace and funky little shops – only minutes from the black sands of Pololu Valley to the east, or the white sand resort beaches to the west. Shop in a vast array of galleries – dine on local fare – or buy your own fresh organic produce at the weekly farmers’ market. Stop for lunch in nearby Kapa’au and visit the historical Kamehameha statue. And while you’re at it, take advantage of a number of activities and/or healing modalities (see our blog for more info). Or simply hit the beach and come back to relax on the deck overlooking green fields and the vast turquoise ocean.

Built before Hawaii was a state and for years a hula school for young women, MAUI VIEWS KOHALA has been completely restored, creating touches of elegance yet deeply respecting the spirit of the land it sits upon. All our water is solar heated with electric backup. Low impact use with a high level of comfort is our goal.

This area of Kokoiki was once designated as a nature park, and is surrounded by old growth Norfolk pines, ironwoods, Samoan coconut trees and lush fields and landscape. Star gazing is encouraged at night, where the absence of city lights gives Mother Nature center stage. Surround yourself with beauty and comfort while experiencing a forgotten slice of island living.

Accommodations are rented by the week or month only. Choose from available ocean view downstairs guest room or an upstairs suite with an expansive ocean view. Both offer privacy, ambiance and a quiet, non-smoking atmosphere with a lovely shared kitchen and dining room, including outdoor seating for dining al fresco if desired (see our blog for photos, prices and updates).

Rooms at MAUI VIEWS KOHALA Guest House are created with what we most yearn for when traveling ourselves. Care is taken to offer a sense of peace and tranquility to our guests.
